The Challenge

By 2021, Squab faced several challenges due to its outdated copper-based phone system, which had become increasingly obsolete. Each handset costs approximately £100 per month, resulting in unsustainable telephony expenses.

The system also lacked the flexibility needed to support staff working remotely or across multiple sites. With plans for further expansion, the team recognised the urgent need for a VoIP solution that could maintain the service quality required for customer-facing roles while reducing costs.

The Solution – 3CX

Following a recommendation, Squab partnered with Gradwell to deploy 3CX across the business, which includes twenty-five employees across the group and sixteen within Squab Limited.

The aim was to modernise communications, improve flexibility and reduce operational costs.

Gradwell recommended implementing an 8SC 3CX license to ensure all departments across the group can operate smoothly without interruptions, while only paying for concurrent calls, meaning costs are incurred solely for the calls being made rather than on a price per user basis.

Since transitioning to Gradwell, Squab has achieved significant operational and financial improvements:

Driving Cost Savings and Efficiency

By replacing an outdated copper-based system, Squab has decreased communication costs by up to five times compared to its previous setup. Monthly handset expenses have fallen significantly, freeing up valuable budget to reinvest in the business for cost-saving benefits.

With the 3CX app, Squab’s teams can now answer calls effortlessly from anywhere, whether in the office, on-site, or working remotely. The system simplifies managing inbound-heavy call traffic, enhances efficiency and communication across multiple sites, and ensures customers always receive prompt, professional support, even outside regular hours.

Supporting Growth

As Squab has expanded from one site to six across the UK, most recently in 2023, Gradwell’s 3CX solution has scaled seamlessly to support that growth. Adding new users, devices, or locations, including new sites, has been straightforward, providing Squab with the flexibility to expand without disruption.
