One in three UK adults are now Smartphone users.

Ofcom’s latest report in to the technological habits of the UK, revealed some interesting trends and changes. The report showed that nearly one in three adults now use a Smartphone combined with around half of all teenagers. In terms of market share, Apple’s iPhone was the market leader with over 32% market share and amongst smart phone users, 77% were on contracts. Gradwell also provide award winning mobile contracts which you can find out about  here

The Smartphone density and usage has led to a changing in behaviours with respondents, “ditching more traditional activities in favour of their Smartphone, with 23 per cent claiming to watch less TV and 15 per cent admitting they read fewer books.”

Another interesting pattern identified, was the reduction in fixed lines, which declined from 93% density in 2000 down to 81% in 2011, this is unsurprising with cost effective alternatives to traditional phone lines such as VoIP now readily available.  Ofcom have also recently produced an interactive map detailing local broadband speeds, allowing users to view their local speeds and check whether super-fast broadband is available in their location.

Nevertheless one in seven households having purely mobile connections, another unsurprising statistic considering that mobile phone density now covers 91% of UK adults. Whilst in the first quarter of 2011 over 28% of adults said that they had used their mobile phone to browse the internet and check emails.
