Is your business set for the PSTN switch-off 2025?
The clock is ticking. The deadline for the BT PSTN switch-off is fast approaching, and those who fail to prepare risk disruption to their business. Don’t wait until the last minute to make the switch. Explore our range of voice and business internet solutions today.
What is the PSTN switch-off 2025?
The PSTN switch-off is the process of retiring the legacy copper-based Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). As BT Openreach is responsible for the majority of telephone lines in the UK, it’s also referred to as the BT PSTN switch-off or the analogue phone line switch-off.
This means that traditional phone lines will no longer be available, and all calls will be transmitted over the internet using VoIP technology. This marks a fundamental change in how UK businesses communicate.
When is the switch-off happening?
The analogue phone line switch-off process has begun. A stop-sell is active in many areas across the UK, meaning services like FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) are no longer available to buy. Several exchanges have already been switched off with the full PSTN/ISDN switch-off concluding in 2027. BT has announced a schedule change directed primarily at residential and vulnerable customers; however, businesses will still need to act now to prepare for the switch-off.
Why should you make the switch now?
As we approach the full switch-off date, the demand for PSTN or ISDN replacement services will increase, suppliers will be inundated, and the backlog will grow. Don't wait until the last minute to make the switch if you want to stay connected and keep your business phone numbers. By acting now, you can avoid service interruptions, maintain productivity, and get all the benefits of modern, digital communications sooner rather later.

The PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) switch-off refers to the planned phase-out of traditional landline services. It‘s also referred to as the analogue phone line switch-off. For businesses, it means migrating from legacy, copper-based networks to modern, all-IP solutions.
VoIP and UC technologies leverage the power of the internet to transmit voice and data, offering more flexibility, scalability, and advanced features compared to traditional PSTN-based solutions.
Begin by conducting a comprehensive audit of your existing telephony infrastructure. Collaborate with your telecommunications provider to assess the compatibility of your systems with modern alternatives. Develop a migration plan that ensures a smooth transition without disrupting your operations.
Migrating to VoIP and UC solutions brings numerous benefits, including cost savings, enhanced flexibility, scalability, and access to advanced features such as video conferencing, voicemail-to-email, and unified messaging.
On the contrary, VoIP and UC solutions often provide superior voice quality and reliability. However, a successful transition requires careful planning and implementation. Work closely with your provider to ensure a seamless migration that meets your business's communication needs.
