2015 Technology Predictions

Here at Gradwell we always like to stay up to date with technological advances. Firstly, because we need to keep up with the trends to be sure we advance our products in the right direction and secondly, well, technology simply interests us! Last week we covered a few general business resolutions and as promised, this week are following up with a blog on technology, specifically predictions for 2015.

We recently scoured the internet to find experts in different business industries to find out what they think will take technology by storm in 2015.

IT Builder: Cloud Services Will Boom

“Cloud hosted technology will begin to overtake the traditional server arrangements in many more businesses. 2014 saw many of our clients moving over to managed, hosted services which is rented and allows users to remotely access company applications and data without the traditional restrictions presented by a physical server solution. More companies will be moving their CRM, telephone systems and databases online which will allow for far greater growth and flexibility in their business operations.”

This is great news for Gradwell because we use cloud technology ourselves and we also launched our own suite of business cloud-based products last year. Needless to say, we are very excited to watch cloud technology grow in 2015 and beyond. With cloud computing helping companies reduce costs and make daily business life a bit easier, we don’t see this trend slowing down any time soon.

Gartner: 3D Printing

“Worldwide shipments of 3D printers are expected to grow 98 percent in 2015, followed by a doubling of unit shipments in 2016. 3D printing will reach a tipping point over the next three years as the market for relatively low-cost 3D printing devices continues to grow rapidly and industrial use expands significantly. New industrial, biomedical and consumer applications will continue to demonstrate that 3D printing is a real, viable and cost-effective means to reduce costs through improved designs, streamlined prototyping and short-run manufacturing.”

While 3D printing sounded like a gimmick the first time it hit the news, the attention it’s garnered in the run up to and throughout 2014 shows that this technology will certainly be in demand. It offers huge benefits for both consumers and businesses alike so no doubt there will be more news about how it will impact the global market very soon.

BreadNBeyond: Wearable Technology

“We now have Samsung Galaxy Gear, and Apple Watch coming soon. Expect to see more than 50 brands of smart watches including other fashion brands like Casio, Citizen, and Sony. We predict smart watches getting smarter by the end of 2015. They will have apps included to allow watches act as payment systems or other devices that are more than merely a camera on its strap.”

If wearable technology is a hit, it will be a game changer in the next 5 years. Just like everyone else, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Dr. Hossein Eslambolchi (CEO at CyberFlow Analytics): Data Traffic

“By 2015, 91 percent of internet traffic will be video, including HD and 3D video. The current internet is not designed for these needs. We have to design networks, and applications such as CDN, to be able to handle the load effectively and efficiently. Data centre traffic will exceed five zetabytes in 2015 and 76 percent of that data will stay inside the data centre.”

To keep up with the growing rate of online data usage, a robust, high-speed internet connection is a must. Luckily, Gradwell has been refining its fibre services for the last 12 months so that we can bring customers speeds of up to 80Mbps in both rural and urban areas. It is our goal that business communities throughout the UK will be given an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of superfast broadband.

The list above outlines just a handful of the innovations we’re set to see this year and is certainly not exhaustive. Next week we will bring you a bit of technology fun by covering some of the new gadgets currently being explored during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
