It seems as if Christmas 2014 has long passed us by now, but in reality it was only just over a month ago. Don’t worry, we are not here to talk to you about your plans for Christmas 2015 just yet. We do, however, want to continue a conversation that we blogged about previously during the holiday period.
Gradwell was honoured to supply 89 VoIP and 58 Gradwell Mobile SIMS for free across regional Crisis at Christmas volunteer centres in London, Newcastle and Edinburgh for the third year running*. The Crisis charity runs year-round to help impact the lives of single homeless people and often works with external companies at peak times throughout the year to help them deliver much needed services.
Not long after the holidays, Crisis released a 4 minute video summarising the Crisis at Christmas event including talking head excerpts from the guests themselves. Alongside the 7,200 mince pies, 30,000 meals were distributed over the week and around 4,000 guests were estimated to have visited the centres. The outcome of these efforts can be clearly seen in the video and it’s humbling to see such humane, compassionate treatment of people in need.
We’re sure the efforts of thousands of volunteers clearly made a difference and will continue to make an impact as Crisis supports the homeless throughout the rest of the year. As a service provider, we are indeed a company that likes to help out whenever and wherever we can. Yes, we have daily working lives and are busy during the week growing our own telecommunications business whilst always ensuring our business customers are taken care of. But let’s face it, life is about more than the bottom line. Here’s hoping that 2015 will be a turning point for social and political treatment of the homeless – charities like Crisis are imperative to the wellbeing of some struggling citizens and we hope the future provides new opportunities.
*If you are interested in hearing more news about the technology Gradwell provided to Crisis to help their multiple sites stay connected during the Crisis at Christmas, you can follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter where we regularly post updates. The donated technology was supplied in collaboration with Aimar Foundation whose efforts can be read more about here. With DDIs, conference room and fax to email services all sorted for the centres, it was truly humbling to see simple communicative tech make such a difference.
