MXBackup Service

The MX backup service is currently provided with the purchase of:

• any Gradwell Lite or Enterprise hosting accounts
• our Primary DNS hosting package

any of our 3 email packages

• business email
• email hosting and web space
• email forwarding and web space

It is also available for separate purchase as part of the secondary DNS and mail relaying package if your hosting and Primary DNS management is done elsewhere and you are just looking for a separate back up service.

The DNS name mxbackup.gradwell.net at present points to the following IPs:

• 193.111.201.135

• 193.111.201.133

We also use servers in the following IP blocks:

• 193.84.87.0/24

• 194.164.60.0/24

• 195.74.60.0/23

• 193.111.200.0/23

• 79.135.96.0/19

• 212.11.64.0/19

If you are looking to set up firewall rules based on the IP addresses of our servers as they will connect to your primary server, you should use the ranges above.

Please note we may add machines in other network ranges with little or no notice as needed to cope with high server loads.

Any changes to these server IP addresses will be posted on our status web site at http://www.gradwellstatus.com

If you wish to be kept informed of changes you should subscribe to our automated notifications.

Reload Frequency

Secondary MX records are updated twice daily by our servers. This means that if you add a new domain under the MX Relay menu under Secondary DNS, or the MX Relay checkbox under the main Secondary DNS menu, that it will not be immediately available, should your server go down and that you should allow 12 hours before it should work correctly.

Retry Frequency and Timeout

We will attempt to deliver mail for up to 7 days while your server is unavailable.

After 7 days of failed retry attempts, we will return the message to the sender.
