How to setup ODMR access to receive email

Getting started

Our ODMR service allows you to use an ODMR client to request SMTP delivery of mail we have spooled for you

Essentially, we use the POP3 mail box as a holding ground. To use ODMR mail delivery, simply deliver mail to a POP3 mail box as normal, but use an ODMR client to request it's delivery via SMTP.

Basic configuration

You will need to use our control panel to set the mail forwarding rules for your domain name, or sub domain [or even a specific (set of) address(es)] to deliver mail to a POP3 mail box. You might do one of the following:

• *@domain.dom -> postmaster@pop3.domain.dom - would cause all mail for domain.dom to be downloadable via ODMR
• user@domain.dom -> user@pop3.domain.dom - would cause just mail for user@domain.dom to be downloadable via ODMR
• user1@domain.dom -> odmr@pop3.domain.dom and user2@domain.dom -> would allow all mail for user1 and user2 to be downloadable via ODMR

Subdomains also work in this system, so by directing different subdomains to different POP3 boxes, you can get mail for different subdomains individually.

Finally, you should note that because we store the mail in the POP3 spool, this mail is also available (until it is downloaded) via POP3, imap and through our webmail service, which can be helpful if you are away from your ODMR enabled computer.

Our ODMR service has been tested against Mailtraq and Fetchmail. It should work with any ODMR client and would appreciate feedback from users of other clients.

Firstly, before you attempt to use ODMR you must visit our control panel and reset the password for the relevant POP3 box.

This will allow our system to syncronise your ODMR password which is stored using a different encryption mechanism.

Advanced configuration and troubleshooting

If you are using Windows you might like to try this simple utility which should download your mail via ODMR and deliver it to a local SMTP host. http://xatrn.panozzo.it/

To use Fetchmail:
For version 5.8.11 upwards you should use a command like so:

poll odmr.gradwell.net proto ODMR
username postmaster%pop3.domain.dom password whatever

To use Mailtraq:
Choose "Options -> Reverse SMTP" from the menus and enable Reverse SMTP Agents. Create an ODMR agent using the following settings:

Server - odmr.gradwell.net port 366
Account postmaster%pop3.domain.dom
Domain domain.dom

Password <######>
