How do I test from the BT Master Socket?

Depending on how long your BT master socket has been installed, will depend on the type of socket that you have installed. One is a master socket and one is a NTE5

It is very easy to tell these apart, the early standard ones have a front plate which is one piece and looks like this

With these sockets you are unable to remove the lower front of the faceplate - this is a master socket.

This one is a NTE5, it has a removable bottom faceplate.

If you remove this faceplate the unit will automatically disconnect all extension wiring, enabling you to test from the socket behind.


So instead of plugging your ADSL microfilter in as shown above, you can plug in the microfilter as shown below


This removes all extension wiring that could possibly be causing noise or a drop in signal quality on the PSTN line.
