Getting startedNOTE To use a VoIP phone, you must have a router connected to an ADSL line. A USB modem will not work. Unpack the phone and cables and plug them together as follows (easiest done with the phone base upside down):
Basic configurationSwitch the power on and leave the phone to initialise for a minute or two.
Configuring the phoneIf you have purchased your snom 300 from Gradwell, we will have configured it for use with your first extension. However, if you wish to add or edit an account, or if the phone was not purchased from us, you will need to know how to do this yourself. The easiest way to configure the phone is via the web interface. To access this, set the device up as described above, and then enter the IP address of the phone into a web browser. If you are unsure of the IP address for your snom 300, press the down silver arrow on your device 11 times and then press the tick button. The IP address will be displayed. snom devices purchased from Gradwell will have a default web interface password set, this is to protect your device from unauthorised access. Enter the following into username and password field:
From the web interface, click on one of the identity links to configure the account. The important fields to fill in here are all provided in your welcome email or the control panel for the first (default) extension:
Click Save and your phone will register with our service. If you wish, you can add text into the Displayname field (which will be displayed to other parties when you call them) and the Display text for idle screen field (which will show a name for the account on your device display). You can also change the ringtone for the identity here. This video will help walk you through this process. You can pause and rewind the video as necessary, and use it along with the notes above.
Using your phoneTo answer a call: use the tick button to pick up the call on the headset (if any), pick up the handset, or press the Speaker button for hands-free operation. To switch between two calls on line 1 and line 2: press either the L1 or L2 button to put one caller on hold and speak to the other. The active line is shown by a fast blinking light, the held one by a slow blink. To make calls: enter the number using the keypad then pick up the handset to make a call; press the tick button to use the headset, or press the Speaker button to make a hands-free call.
To make attended transfers: put the caller on hold by pressing L1/L2 as appropriate. Dial the destination number as usual and speak to the recipient. Then press the Transfer and tick buttons to put the caller through and hang up your connection. To make conference (three-way) calls: this requires changing the setup in the web configuration. If conference calls are important to you, it may be worth buying a higher-end snom model which has dedicated conference buttons to join calls. To pick up voicemails: dial *1 and enter the voicemail password when prompted (which you will find in the extension details in your VoIP control panel). Setting up a headset: Navigate to the web interface of your snom (as described in configuring the phone). Use the Setup > Preferences link at the left to choose your headset, and save the changes. Adding extra accounts: You can add up to four accounts on your device. Simply follow the same procedure as outlined in configuring the phone to do this. For example, you might want to add the an extra account in identity two. You can use different ringtones for different identities if you wish, which will help you tell which account is being called. To switch between accounts, simply use the left or right silver arrow keys on your device.
Advanced configuration and troubleshootingHow do I find the MAC address of my device? If you purchased your snom phone from Gradwell, we set the last six characters of the MAC address of your device as the password for the web interface password. This is to protect your unit from unauthorised access and is unique to every phone. To find the MAC address of your phone, simply turn the phone over and look for a white label similar to the picture below. The MAC address is underneath the bar code. Setting an IP address(Only necessary if you do not use DHCP on your network.) When the question "Do you use DHCP?" appears on the display, press the cancel button. (If this prompt doesn't appear, use the silver menu button to select Configuration > DHCP). TIP Once you've saved the IP address, you can use the web interface (Setup > Advanced link) to enter the other network settings. See configuring the phone for how to start this. Using multiple devices behind a NAT firewallIf you intend to use multiple snom phones behind a NAT Firewall you will need to give each phone a unique SIP Listening Port. Select Advanced from the left hand navigation menu. In the Advanced Network: section enter a unique port number into the Network identity (port) setting
For example if you have two phones, then you would set the network identity (port) to 5060 for the first phone and 5061 for the second phone, be sure to forward these ports through your firewall to the internal IP of the device. Alternatively, we recommend that phones are placed on public routed IP addresses to avoid this extra configuration work (please contact your ISP about availability of public IP space). |
