How to view your received faxes

Getting started

If you have requested to receive your faxes from our Fax-to-Email service in a .tif format, you may have problems viewing them using the standard Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

Basic configuration

In order to view the received faxes correctly a free piece of software called Irfanview can be downloaded and installed on your PC, you can download this programme from http://www.irfanview.com/.

Advanced settings and troubleshooting

If you wish to modify your Windows Operating System installation to view faxes using Microsoft Picture and Fax viewer, please follow the instructions below:

  • Click Start > My Computer
  • Select the Tools option from the toolbar, followed by Folder Options
  • Select the File Types tab
  • Locate the ‘TIF’ file extension
  • Highlight this file type, and select the ‘Advanced’ button
  • Select Open from the Actions box
  • Select Edit from the right
  • Change the ‘Application used to perform action:’ field to read rundll32.exe C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32shimvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1
  • Select the ‘Preview’ button from the right hand side window
  • Change the ‘Application used to perform action:’ field to read rundll32.exe C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1
  • Click OK
  • Click OK

Windows has now been reconfigured to use the built in Microsoft Picture and Fax Viewer application when opening .tif files.
