How to set up trixbox CE for an IAX outbound trunk

Getting started

This guide covers setting up trixbox CE for use with our IAX outbound service and presumes you have a basic working knowledge of trixbox.

Basic configuration

Log on to the trixbox configuration and administration screen by entering the IP address of your trixbox into a web browser and switching to admin mode.

Select PBX -> PBX Settings.

Under the basic section on the left choose trunks.

Select the add IAX2 Trunk.

You will now be presented with the general settings screen for the IAX trunk and the settings must be entered following this format:

General settings
Outbound caller ID: Enter your outbound caller ID (you must use a number that you have either purchased from Gradwell or a number you have registered as a number that you own).
Maximum channels: Enter the number of outbound channels you wish to allocate.

Outgoing dial rules
Dial rules: This is where you can set up a dialing rule for the trunk. You can set the system up so that you have to prefix the number with 9 to dial using this trunk or you can get more complicated and set the rule so that dialing certain numbers results in this trunk being used. Please see the Trixbox help for further information on the syntax.

Dial rules wizards: You can add prefixes to numbers, remove prefixes and use a lookup to replace prefixes.

Outbound dial prefix: If your Trixbox is behind another PBX and this requires you to dial a 9 to access an outside line this is where you configure this.

Outgoing settings
Trunk name: This is a descriptive name that you give to the Trunk.

PEER details: Enter the following lines in this box:

disallow=all
allow=alaw
host=iax.trunk.gradwell.com
type=peer
username=
(the username you supplied when purchasing the product)
secret=(the password you supplied when purchasing the product)

Incoming settings
Leave this section blank unless you have purchased the IAX inbound service (see article on IAX inbound setup).

Registration section:

Leave the register string empty and select Submit Changes.

Finally select the red bar at the top of the screen to reload the configuration files.

You have now set up the outbound IAX connection to Gradwell, you must now set up your ‘Outbound Routes’ rules.
