How to configure Switchvox for a SIP Outbound Trunk |
| Article Number: 149 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Tue, Sep 21, 2010 at 3:49 PM |
Getting StartedThis document assumes that you have already purchased and configured SIP trunks from the Gradwell VOIP Control Panel to point at the IP of your public WAN connection/Switchvox. In the examples, the DDI of 01225123456 will be used, this will need to be replaced with your purchased DDI number. Basic ConfigurationThe Switchvox administration and configuration is managed via a browser-based tool suite. To log in to the administrator tool suite, type the URL of the server into the navigation bar of a web browser on a computer that is part of the same network as your Switchvox Server. The URL will be similar to https://192.168.0.100/admin You will be prompted to enter a username and password. Switchvox is configured with a default username and password combination. The default username is: admin The default password is: admin Once logged in, navigate to System Setup and then Outgoing Calls. First, you will need to build some rules so that Switchvox is able to recongise the number dialled should be sent to Gradwell via your SIP Trunk. As Switchvox is an American product - the rules will need to be adapted for the UK.
Rule number, 3 used above is for Long Distance dialling, any number dialled beginning with 901 and the remainder of the number is 9 to 10 digits in length, Gradwell SIP will be used to place the call. A similar rule has been created to allow mobile numbers to be called. Once you have defined your rules, you then need to configure the CLI behaviour for your extensions. Each extension can send a different CLI to the destination if required (providing these CLI's are enabled on your account).
In this example, extension 200 will send their Caller ID Name as A Test User (for SIP to SIP calls), and a Caller ID number of 01225123456 (for PSTN calls). Once you have created your rules, you will be able to dial outbound from any registered SIP phone on your Switchvox PBX. Advanced Configuration and TroubleshootingIf you experience any problems with making outbound calls, then you can enable diagnostic information on your Switchvox, select System Setup, Outgoing Calls then click on the Red "Enable Outgoing Call Diagnostics Mode" at the bottom of the screen.
For further information on how to use this feature click on the "Tell me more about how this works" popup. Restricting/Withholding your CLI on outbound callsIf you wish to present your CLI as Withheld or Unavailable to the number you are calling, you will need to modify your dial rules. You could create an override rule, for example if you prefix a number with 8 then your CLI will be sent, and a number prefixed with 9 would withhold the CLI. To configure this, click on System Setup followed by Outgoing Calls, then select Modify next to the rule you wish to change. In the example, the UK Mobile rule has been modified so that any calls to numbers beginning 07 have CLI withheld.
