How to configure the fring mobile softphone

Getting Started

fring™ is a mobile internet community and communication service that brings Skype^®, MSN Messenger^®, Google Talk™, ICQ, SIP, Twitter, Yahoo!™ and AIM^® to your mobile device.

fring also allows you to integrate your VoIP service that you have with Gradwell using the SIP protocol, and will run on the following types of mobile phone:

Symbian (Nokia)
Android
iPhone (Apple)
Windows Mobile

In order to use fring you will need to first download and install the client. For detailed instructions on how to do this read the downloading fring section of this guide. Once you have done this you can view our walkthrough video or basic configuration instructions to help you set the client up.

n.b. The screenshots and video in this guide are from the Symbian (Nokia) version of the software, other platforms are configured in a similar way.

Downloading fring

There are two ways to download fring. The first is to visit fring's website to download and install the application manually. You will then have to follow the instructions in the walkthrough video or basic configuration section to finish setting up your extension on the application.

The second is easier, and allows you to have the download sent to your mobile phone directly from the Gradwell control panel. After logging in simply look for the fring box on the home page of your control panel and click Click here to install fring.

To start, you need to choose an extension to use on your mobile device. You can choose any extension on your account using the dropdown box, although some people choose a specific extension to identify their device. The extension you choose here will be automatically configured on the client for you. Click Continue once you are ready.

Now you just need to let us know which mobile phone you want to use fring on. We will send an SMS message to this phone with a link to download and install the application.

Once you click Continue the SMS will be sent. Once received, simply open it and download and install the application on your phone. Your extension will be pre-configured on the client, however you will be asked to create a fring ID - simply create a username and password when prompted. Your mobile softphone will now be ready to use.

Basic Configuration

Once you have registered your fring ID, navigate to the client option and select SIP by highlighting and pressing the Options softkey, or tapping your devices screen.
	Once the Options menu has been displayed, select the Subscribe option, this will then allow you to configure the SIP account to connect to our network.
Then select Other from the list of SIP providers and complete the server information, this will allow your phone to register with our network.
	You will need to enter your Gradwell extension number in the format of extension@sip.gradwell.net You can retrieve your extension number and registration server from your welcome email or the Gradwell control panel. You will also need to enter an Outbound proxy address, this address is nat.gradwell.net:5082

Once the details have been entered, select the Subscribe softkey, or tap Subscribe, your device will then register successfully on our network and you will be able to make and receive calls.
