How to configure an Android device for Hosted Exchange

Getting Started

You first need to ensure that your Android Phone is compatible with Hosted Exchange.

Select the Mail icon from the menu, then press Menu followed by More then select New Account.

If your device is compatible you should see Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync under the Choose a mail provider option.

Basic Configuration

Select the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync option after following the steps above.

Enter your email address and password which are assigned to the Hosted Exchange account and select Next

At the next screen you need to enter the following information

  • Email Address: the full email address that is used for your Hosted Exchange account.
  • Server Address: mail.msexchange2007.com or cloud-mail.co.uk (If you have recently signed up for Hosted Exchange, then please use this server)
  • Domain: Is not required, and can be left blank
  • Username: The full email address that is used for your Hosted Exchange account
  • Password: The password to access the mailbox

Please also ensure that This server requires an encrypted SSL connection is ticked, then click on Next. If the information has been entered correctly, your device should authenticate and you will be presented with the Synchronisation option screen

Tap what data options you wish to synchronise between the Exchange server and your Android device, and then select Finish setup. The chosen data will then be synchronised back to your phone from the Exchange server.

Advanced Configuration

To edit the synchronisation settings once the account has been configured, tap on the Settings icon in the All Programs view. Select Data Synchronisation and then Exchange ActiveSync.

Email sub-folders can be synchronised by pressing the Menu button from within the Mail application and selecting the Folders option.

Select the folder that you want to access, then press the Refresh button to download the mail in that folder.

Remember, that if you have selected the option to only download the last seven days worth of email, then that applies to all email folders so only messages that are newer than seven days in this folder will be displayed.

Once your handset has synchronised successfully the device will also appear in the Mobile Devices section when logged into Outlook Web Access, from here you can disable the device, or perform a remote wipe in case of loss.
