How to configure AsteriskNOW for an IAX Outbound Trunk

Getting Started

Once logged into the AsteriskNOW web interface, select the Service Providers menu from the left hand side of the screen.

To configure Outbound calling select, Add Service Provider and select Custom VOIP

Fill in the requested information using the example below

  • Comment: Gradwell IAX Out
  • Protocol: IAX
  • Register: (Leave Unselected)
  • Host: iax.trunk.gradwell.com
  • Username: (This will be the username that you chose during account signup)
  • Password: (This will be the password that you chose during account signup)

Once the basic settings have been entered you will then need to setup calling rules, select Calling Rules from the left hand menu.

For example, to route all calls prefixed with 9 to the Gradwell IAX Outbound Trunk

Click Add a Calling Rule

  • Rule Name: All Calls prefixed with 9
  • Place this call through: Gradwell IAX Out
  • Dialing Rules: if the number begins with 9 and followed by 1 digits or more (You need to tick the box after digits)
  • Strip 1 digits from the front

Then click Save. Next you will then need to bind this rule to your extensions - Select Users from the left hand menu

Select a User Extension and ensure the Dial Plan is set to the relevant dialplan you created the rules above under - for a fresh installation this will be DialPlan1.

Finally click Activate Click Activate Changes to reload Asterisk.

You should now be able to call the PSTN by dialing the number prefixed with a 9 - calls will be sent to our network via our load balanced IAX cluster.
